Subject: An excellent Source for Navy Engineering, but it's dated and it shows
Subject: An excellent Source for Navy Engineering, but it's dated and it shows
For many years this was go to source on US Navy propulsion and Auxiliary systems, it's now a bit long in the tooth as steam ships have almost gone the way of the dinosaur. Still has some good info but it's more than a bit dated and it shows.

Subject: The Definitive Source Book for Steam Turbine Propulsion
Subject: The Definitive Source Book for Steam Turbine Propulsion
For those who have an interest in the specialized field of steam turbine power generation, especially as it applies to shipboard use, this truly is the go-to book. It gives a basic overview of the entire main steam cycle, from generation (the boilers) to expansion (turbines) to condensation to the pumps which continue the cycle.
There is also a good look at auxiliary and support machinery, including steam distillation plants and air conditioning. Basic principles of ship construction and stability are addressed as well. Finally, there is a brief overview of other power sources including Diesel, gas turbines, and nuclear. Highly recommended for those with an interest in naval history, especially during the years between World War II and the post-Vietnam era.
